Dear Editor,
I must commend the effort of the Police Traffic Department to ensure road safety in Guyana.
Indeed they have done a wonderful job to educate persons about road safety in Guyana. Most persons have been adhering to these laws so as to evade the imposed penalties.
However, as a concerned citizen and a motorist, it has bothered me that the traffic department is doing absolutely noting as it relates to pedal cyclists who disregard the law.
It is evident that many pedal cyclists do not comply with laws, and gets away with it as it regards using the road. Pedal cyclists ride their cycles through one way roads, do not stop at designated stop signs and ride in the nights without a head lamp on their cycles. This is most dangerous for motorists who are approaching intersections that have no street lights. Pedal cyclists who disregard the law, like motorists and pedestrians should be penalized or be placed before the court.
I have seen many traffic policemen and women ignore pedal cyclists, who do not adhere to the laws. This is atrocious, to know that this is a much simpler task for the traffic department to handle, and they are doing nothing to improve this particular situation.
