Graham’s Hall, Mon Repos, Greenwich Park and Leonora were all crowned champions as play in this year’s Al Sport/Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sport (MCYS) Primary Schools Windball Cricket Competition continued at various venues recently.
In results of matches played:
At Uitvlugt Community Centre-
Finals (Boys) –
Greenwich defeated Leonora by 23 runs.
Taking first strike, Greenwich reached 73-7 off the allotted 6 overs with Avier Fredricks 34 and Jaleel Duke 11, being the principal scorers. Ivor Trotz and Mahendra Persaud each picked up 3wickets.
Leonora in reply were restricted to 50-9. Oswald Mc Ewan hit 17 and M. Persaud added 12.
N. Reddy grabbed 4 wickets and Ghansham Singh supported with 2.
Girls-
Leonora beat Cornelia Ida by 14 runs.
Leonora 53-1, Tasleema Bacchus 34.
Cornelia Ida 39-2, Saudia Viera 14. Chitra Surwballi captured 2 wickets.
Earlier in semi-final action- (Boys) –
Leonora scraped home against Stewartville by 7 wickets.
Stewartville compiled 58-6, John Cameron stroked 25. Ivor Trotz bagged 3-4.
Leonora in reply made 59-3 with Mahendra Persaud hitting 28 and I Trotz 13.
Malcolm Hubbard had 3-7.
Greenwich Park beat Cornelia Ida by 5 wickets.
Cornelia Ida 58-3, Akshaya Persaud 35.
Greenwich Park replied with 59-5, Nicoloi Reddy 15, Sanjay Rajkumar 13. Alvin Stephens snared 3 wwicketss and Shrikanta Deoroop had 2.
At the Enmore Community Centre Ground-
Final –
Enterprise defeated Graham’s Hall by 8 wickets.
Graham’s Hall made 36-3. Shem Wilkie hit 23. Brashar Yadram took for 2-14.
Enterprise in reply closed on 37-2. Yadram top scored with 12 not out and Akeem John 10.
Semi-finals-
Enterprise rolled past Strathspey by 11 runs.
Enterprise 69-4, Hardat Singh 28, Besham Kemraj 25. Orlando Cummings 2-8, Charran George 2-14.
Strathspey 58-5, Aron Persaud 15, C George 13, Ganesh Surujpaul 12.
Graham’s Hall hammered Friendship by 36 runs.
Graham’s Hall totalled 85-0, Totoram Jagdeo 52* Shem Wilkie 17.
Friendship replied with 49-6. Andrew Dalante 12. T. Jagdeo and Bobby David each grabbed 2 wickets.
Quarter-final:
Friendship beat Montrose by 7 wickets.
Montrose made 52-5 with Dharmendra Parmanandan 19 and Ryan Lall 13, the chief scorers. Dellon Wright with 2-15 and Dren Roberts 2-18 were the leading wicket-takers.
Friendship in reply, reached 58-3, Odell Barnwell 21* with 3 sixes. Saffee Alli picked up 2-11.
Girls-
Finals-
Mon Repos beat St. Paul’s by 5 runs.
Mon Repos after being invited to bat made 46-2 with Kimberley Samad and Malika Veerasammy scoring 15 apiece.
St Paul’s in their turn at the crease could only muster 41-3. I. Miller made 10.
Semis-
Beterverwagting clobbered St. Paul’s by 10 wickets.
Betterverwagting 43-0 Anhola Francis 20, Shunja Trotman 14.
St Paul’s replied with 44-0, Christal Blackman 20, Iwanna Miller 14.
Mon Repos then beat Strathspey by 10 runs.
Mon Repos compiled 58-0 with M. Veerasammy 31, K. Samad 13.
Strathspey 48-3, Marissa Sutton 12.
In a replayed match between St. Paul’s and Enmore, the former won by 23 runs.
St Paul’s made 59-3, Christal Blackman 19.
Enmore batting second reached 36-2. Natilia Rohaman top scored with 11*.
At Unity Lancaster Community Centre Ground-
Girls final:
Gibson defeated defending Region 4 champions Mahaica by 8 runs.
Gibson batted first and made 39-1. Sursattie Boodraj hit 17* and Lashauna Jones 13*. Mahaica were then contained to 31-3, with National Primary school Windball player Tiffanna Mansfield scoring10. Arrissa Mohamed took 2-7.
Boys:
Debutant Carlton Hall fell to Mahaica by 5 runs.
Carlton Hall posted 73-2 with Joshua Sammy 24* and Gibon Basdeo 23*, the principal scorers. Selwyn Sam picked up 2-20.
Mahaica in reply, made 78-1. Kelvin James smashed 41*, while Kevin Burke hit a belligerent 24* with 4 sixes.
More action in Region 4 was scheduled for yesterday, at Grove Play Field, and today, at Timehri Red Ground.
Tomorrow play continues at Wales Community Centre Region 3. Defending Region 3 Girls Champions Mc Gillivary take on Leonora, while in the Boys Division; former champion Kawall oppose Greenwich Park.
Director of Sport Neil Kumar is expected to be at the finals to present the trophies donated by the MCYS.
