Five half-centuries and two 5-wicket hauls highlighted the second round of the Barakat Brothers 40-overs second division cricket competition, in West Demerara over the weekend.
Mahendra Persaud (55) of Leonara, Suresh Mathura (67) and Mohan Chaitram (65) of Windsor Forest, Meten-Meer-Zorg’s ‘A’ Mahendra Nandkishore (58) and Bryan Roopchand (54) of Satro were the outstanding batsmen, while Windsor Forest’s Bhesham Dhanraj (5-39) and Feroze Barakat (6-18) for Meten-Meer-Zorg ‘A’, excelled in the bowling department.
At Uitvlugt:
Windsor Forest beat Uitvlugt by 136 runs; Windsor Forest made 260-7 in 40 overs. Suresh Mathura hit 67, Mohan Chaitram 65, Julian Williams 47 and Ganpat Sukhram 20. Bowling for Uitvlugt Deon Crew took 3–35 and Rovin Seenarine 2–37. Uitvlugt replied with 124 all out off 26.4 overs; Royston Grenville made 37 and Rameer Alli 19. Bowling for Windsor Forest, right arm medium pacer Bhesham Dhanraj, captured 5–39 and Ganpat Sukhram 3–34.
At Meten Meer Zorg West:
Leonora Youth beat Shamrock by 121 runs. Leonora Youth 229–9 in 40 overs. Marlon Basdeo 55, Mahendra Persaud 45, Jitendra Kishore 34 and Chris Sookram 18 not out , were the main contributors. Afmad Naziemudeen 2 – 36, Abdulla Naziemudeen 2 – 43, Julius Williams 2 – 38 and Shafeullah Hack 2 – 34 shared the wickets. Shamrock made 108 all out in 25.3 overs, with Dubhraj Singh contributing 37 and Zaheed Mohamed 25. Bowling for Leonara Youth, Rakesh Singh took 4-29, Ravendra Ramnarine 3 – 25 and Marlon Basdeo 2 – 17.
At Whyte’s Ground in Leguan:
Independence SC beat Satro by 4 wickets – Satro 134 all out in 22 overs, Simon Persaud 22 and Ravi Chouti 24 were the main scorers. Bowling for Independence SC Hamid Azeez grabbed 3-18, Jagnarine Etwaroo 3-16 and Micheal Smith 2–24. Independence SC 136 for 6 in 24.4 overs, David Alert 33 not out, Vivian Beckles 28, Kishan Shivgobin 24 led the batting. Bowling for Satro Simon Persaud captured 2–20 and Trevor Whyte 2–24.
At Uitvlugt:
The match wasreduced to 30 overs due to rain. Meten-Meer-Zorg ‘A’ beat All Youth by 56 runs. Meten-Meer-Zorg ‘A’ 220 all out in 29.4 overs; Mahendra Nandkisshore top scored with 58, supported by Sase Narine 49 and Seymour Evans 43. Bowling for All Youth, Ganesh Persaud 3–28, Jadesh Persaud 2–40 and Avinash Persaud 2 -30, were the wreckers. All Youth 156 all out in 29.1 overs; Rickey Persaud contributed 30, Avinash Persaud 29 and Anthony Carrington 22. Bowling for Meten-Meer-Zorg ‘A’ Feroze Barakat took 6–18 from 4.1 overs of right arm off-spin and Vinod Rajrmar 2 – 24.
At Meten-Meer-Zorg West:
Vergenoegen beat rivals Ruby United by 24 runs in a match reduced to 30 overs due to rain. Vergenoegen 160 all out in 30 overs; Alwick Legall top scored with 37, Arnold Padmore supported with 27 and Kevin Boodie 19. Bowling for Ruby United, Edwin Burnett picked up 2–26, Samuel De Camp 2–35, Surendranauth Sookdeo 2–29, Feroze Ghani 2–31. Ruby United replied with 136 all out in 27.2 overs. Rean Ghani made 29, Faizul Ghani 22 and Samuel De Camp 20. Bowling for Vergenoegen Javid Shafeez claimed 4 – 29 and Trelon Garraway 2 – 30.
At Whyte Ground:
Satro beat Meten-Meer-Zorg ‘B’ by 7 wickets. Meten-Meer-Zorg ‘B’ 107 all out in 29.2 overs. Govinda Singh 25 and Arshad Alli 18 were the major contributors. Bowling for Satro, Alwin Mc Koy claimed 3–20, Trevor Whyte 3–23 and Bryan Roopchand 2–20. Satro 112-3 in 20.1 overs. Bryan Roopchand 54 not out and Alwin Mc Koy 28 not out topped the batting. Bowling for Meten-Meer-Zorg ‘B’ Arshad Alli took 2–16. The competition continues this weekend with seven matches, at Meten-Meer-Zorg West, Leguan, Uitvlugt and Windsor Forest.
