An 18-year-old schoolboy from the East Ruimveldt Secondary School, was yesterday afternoon rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital nursing several stab wounds inflicted by a classmate.
According to reports, the lad, Orlando Dover, of 19 Walker Terrace, was stabbed just outside the school’s compound.
At the Georgetown Public Hospital, yesterday, Dover had a large tube inserted into his abdomen draining the waste fluids from his body.
A relative told this newspaper, that the teen had just finished writing his last subject in the Caribbean Secondary Examination Council exams (CSEC).
The relative further told this newspaper that Dover was outside of the school compound.
“He was sitting, making jokes with his friends since they had written the last exam and it may have been the last time they would be seeing each other”.
The relative said that she was told by Dover that the jokes quickly turned serious and an argument ensued between Dover and the suspect.
The suspect was allegedly given an “ice pick” by another teen and he stabbed Dover several times about his body. The lad who was bleeding profusely was quickly rushed to the hospital by public-spirited persons in the area.
According to Dover’s grandmother, she received a telephone call from a friend who lives close by, informing her about the incident.
The woman said that she quickly called the lad’s mother and sister who rushed to the hospital.
Relatives lamented the fact that they could have heard that Dover was killed, noting that both school officials and parents must take a keener look at their children before they leave for school.
“Parents must check their children’s bags when they leave their respectful homes and the teachers must also check their bags randomly when these children arrive at the schools,” the relative opined.
A relative further revealed to Kaieteur News that the suspect’s mother had contacted them and had stated that her son was struck in his face. The suspect’s mother reportedly added that the teen has since been taken to Berbice.
However, this claim was refuted by both eyewitnesses who claimed that Dover was unarmed when the incident occurred.
The teen’s condition is listed as stable ,but doctors are monitoring his condition.
