‘Top Cop’ donates cash and uniforms to winners
Rollers Volleyball Club (RVC) of New Amsterdam edged GuySuCo Training School (GTS) 2-1, when the Charles Henry One Day Independence Volleyball competition concluded at the GTM Hard Court, Lad Lane and Kent Street, Strand New Amsterdam Berbice, last Tuesday.
Rollers clinched the first game 25-23, but a determined effort in the second set ensured that GTS remained in contention, winning by a similar margin. The large crowd in attendance subsequently witnessed a classical final set that saw the RVC coming out victorious 15-13.
A team of classy players represented Rollers. They included national player Shawn Sutherland, Captain Sean Wilson, Imran Azeez and Romel Bansi. Playing for GTS were National Coach and former captain Levi Nedd, national player Sean Glasgow and National Under-19 player Quacy Matheson.

Fortunes fluctuated during the first set with both teams enjoying bright moments. Rollers eventually grasped a substantial lead to take the first set.
The GTC rebounded to take the second set, setting the stage for an intriguing third. The players did not disappoint, an intense battle for honours ensued, as they fought for every point. The contest was even halted briefly, as the referees had to rule on a crucial point during the action with the scores at 14-13 and Rollers in ascendency.
At this point, GTC had earned the serve, but blundered badly when one of their players inadvertently touched the net, thus conceding the crucial point and an eventual win to the Rollers.
In the second game played, Port Mourant edged past GTC 2-0 to claim second place.
