Mazda Mining Company (MMC) shot their way to an exciting win over their rivals to capture the inaugural George Melville Memorial/Guyana Association of Private Security Organisations (GAPSO) handgun competition, which was contested at the Tactical Services Range, Eve Leary yesterday morning.
MMC tallied 203 points and 1 bull to win ahead of COPS ‘Team 3’ by a single point in the 8-team battle.
The 3rd to 8th places were occupied by; Neal & Massy Security Solutions ‘Team 2’ (180 points & 2 bulls), Professional Guard Service (144 points & 1 bull), COPS ‘Team 1’ (132 points), COPS ‘Team 2’ (101 points & 1 bull), Banks DIH ‘Team 2’ (30 points) and Banks ‘Team 1’ bringing up the rear with 15 points.
MMC also won the 5-metre competition with 127 points with the 10-metre taken by COPS Team 3 who amassed 87 points.
For the second year in a row, Cylus Gibson of COPS won the Individual Shoot with 84 points.
In competition among Police Officers, which also saw keen and exciting action, Team 1 squeezed to the top spot ahead of Team 2 by a solitary point, 237 to 236. Both teams had 4 bulls. In the third spot was Team 3 on 227 points along with 3 bulls.
Claiming the individual trophy was Insp. Guy Nurse who tallied 94 points. The 5-metre Shoot was taken by Police 3 who accumulated 143 points and 4 bulls with the 10-metre event going to Team 2 with 96 points.
President of GAPSO Gregory Gaskin complimented the winners and all the participants for coming out in what he described as the largest turn out ever for the GAPSO organised competition.
Gaskin extended gratitude to members of the Guyana Police Force for their cooperation and assistance in helping to make the event the success it was. Other members of the host were also present and assisted with the presentation of prizes.
Daughter of the late George Melville, Odetta Fogenay was on hand to assist with the presentation of prizes.
