Dear Editor,
I do not know Mr. Keith Burrowes but from what I have been reading in the press he has hit the hammer on the right nail at the Georgetown City Council.
A local government election is a must, not next year, but this year. Governance is bad at that place.
Look at the state of the cemetery. The council has not respect for the dead. Then as if that is not enough they have been going on with a disgraceful dumpsite in the cemetery. For that alone the Minister should dissolve the whole lot of them.
What is the Minister of Local Government waiting for? Come on; it’s time to remove those who have occupied City Hall for more than a decade to embarrass all of us and put in people with vision, energy and will. All along government has been unfair to its citizens to continue to allow these councils across the country to remain in place.
They are destroying everything. I am afraid if they are not removed quickly, by the time they remove, nothing would be left of the city, towns and villages.
I also agree with Mr. Burrowes that while we wait on local government elections, the government should allow another citizens’ group to be assigned to the council to make them more accountable.
Mr. Burrowes should be commended for his effort to bring to the knowledge of the public what is really happening at the council.
I am looking forward to seeing the recommendations and how the authorities will implement them.
Lynn Bristol
