East Bank E’bo are Banks DIH X-tra White champs

East Bank Essequibo won the Banks DIH X-tra White 40 overs cricket competition, defeating South Essequibo by one wicket in the final, played last Sunday at the Wakenaam Community Centre Ground in Good Success.
South Essequibo won the toss and opted to bat first on a pitch with preparation moisture in front of a fair sized crowd, in a game which was reduced to 35 overs. On the back of Chandy Jairam’s 79 (4×4, 8×6), skipper Norman Federicks 30 (4×4) and Floyd Henry 24 (2×6, 1×4) they managed 204-8 in the 35 overs.

Alwick Legall was East Bank Essequibo’s best bowler with 3-28 off 6 overs, while Brian Hubbert took 2-24 off 7. The team from the East Bank of the Essequibo River started their reply badly, losing the wicket of Yougister Bachan, who was run out in the fourth over with the score on 12.
They then lost a few more quick wickets, but resolute batting by man-of-the-match Hubbert 45 n.o (3×4, 4×6), Lennox Andrews 31 (4×4, 1×6), Kenworth Smith 24 and Trevor Benn 22 saw them to victory with 17 balls to spare, ending on 205-9.

Deolall Rooplall, Rayan Federicks and Raymond Beaton captured two wickets each for the runner up team.
East Bank collected the winning trophy, while South Essequibo received the runners-up prize.  The tournament’s MVP was Norman Federicks who hit a century in the preliminary round.
President of the Essequibo Cricket Board, Sheik Ahmad, complimented both teams for reaching the final and thanked Banks DIH for sponsoring the competition. He also spoke about the talent in Essequibo Cricket.
Dwain Bristol, the Liquor sales manager of Banks DIH, praised the Essequibo Cricket Board for running a well organised tournament and said that Banks DIH will continue to support cricket in the county.
