Debutants Edinburgh suffered their first loss in three matches last Tuesday in the fourth round of the Telenec Berbice First Division 50-over cricket competition, going down to Police by three wickets at their home ground.
The East Bank Berbice combination got past Blairmont and Berbice over the weekend, after recovering from 100-4 in 32 overs to 260 all out in 49.4 overs; Elroy Nelson smashed an explosive 70, decorated with 5 fours and 3 sixes.
Michael Saul, who hit 9 fours and 3 sixes in his even ton and Cylus Gibson, who made 53 with 6 fours, added 98 for the first wicket for Police, before Saul and Jerry Heyliger (28) added 82 from the 2nd wicket.
When Saul departed the score was 213-7 and Edinburgh still on top. However, the Cops capitalised on two dropped catches – Michael Newland (31*) and Andel Doris (16*) seeing them to victory with an unfinished 47 run partnership.
Led by 79 with 6 fours from National Under-19 batsman Seon Hetmyer, Young Warriors posted 203 in 39.3 overs against Rose Hall Community Centre, who fell short by 29 runs; former Berbice Under-19 player Farouk Hussain taking 4-39.
The match between Bermine and West Berbice was postponed due to the unavailability of the Cumberland ground.
