McGill squeezed past Corneila Ida by four runs on Sunday last at the Cornelia Ida Community Centre ground when play in the New Line Aqua Farm 40-over cricket competition continued.
Led by a spanking McGill 68 from Sudesh Persaud, McGill, who won the toss and decided to take first strike, posted 162-9 off their 40 overs. Abdool Razack supported Persaud with 27.
Nigel Vieira 3-28, Shawn Jairaj 3-39, Bisram Thomas 2-25 were the top bowlers for Cornelia Ida who were bowled out for 158 with one ball remaining in their 40 overs.
Khemraj Ramsundar made 51 and Shawn Jairaj 38.
Capping a fine all round performance was Persaud, who captured 3-24 and received excellent support from Budram Soogrim 2-28 and Azard Dean 2-30.
Meanwhile, the West Demerara Cricket Association under whose auspices the competition is taking place, in a release stated that the tournament will be played using the structure of a premier and development league.
Premier League matches set for this weekend are as follows:
Tomorrow: Zeeburg will be at home to McGill Superstars, while Cornelia Ida will entertain Wales CDC.
On Sunday: Zeeburg will again be at home, this time to Cornelia Ida and at the Canal Number Two Sports Club ground, the home team will battle Uitvlugt.
