-Mon Repos businessman among suspects detained
A well known Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, businessman was yesterday among several persons detained following the discovery of an illegal shotgun at his home and the recovery of a boat and engine that were stolen from French Guiana.
Police in a press statement said that ranks conducted searches on the East Coast of Demerara yesterday during which a 40hp outboard motor engine, a quantity of seine and a 25-foot fibre glass boat, which are all suspected to have been stolen, were recovered.
The release added that further investigations led to a search on another building on the East Coast where an unlicensed 12 gauge shotgun was found. Two men were arrested.
This newspaper understands that acting on information, the police swooped down on the Mon Repos foreshore where they found the items.
After questioning several persons, investigators then went to the home of the businessman who exports salted fish and found the shotgun.
A source close to the investigations told Kaieteur News that the businessman is claiming that he bought the weapon from a man who is the main suspect in the theft of the boat.
