Two months after he allegedly stabbed his reputed wife to death in Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, there has been no sighting of murder suspect, Charles Chapman, called ‘Frenchy’.
Police sources conceded, yesterday, that they have no information on the fugitive’s possible whereabouts.
Chapman, a former minibus driver who had also worked at sea, is wanted for the murder of Savitri Arjune, who was stabbed to death in Rum Shop Street, Herstelling in March.
Police had received reports that the suspect had parked the bus he was driving in the area and had attacked Arjune as she passed by.
Kaieteur News managed to contact Chapman on his cell phone shortly after the murder, and he readily admitted to killing his spouse.
The suspect is said to have been upset over the severing of their eight-year common-law relationship.
Arjune’s relatives claimed she was subjected to constant physical abuse at his hands.
They also said that he slashed Arjune with a knife about a week ago before she was slain and had repeatedly threatened to kill her.
Chapman admitted during his conversations with Kaieteur News, that he had tried to torch the Arjune family home in Herstelling some time ago and had even contemplated killing the family.
Ranks at the Providence Police Station had investigated several complaints that Savitri Arjune and Charles Chapman had made against one another.
Chapman was charged at least once for assaulting Arjune, while Arjune was charged for damage to property after she smashed the windscreen of a minibus that Chapman had owned.
However, Kaieteur News was told that the couple would always settle the matters out of court.
