Wakenaam defeated Bartica by 8 wickets, as the Banks DIH X-tra White 40 overs cricket competition continued at the Wakenaam Community Centre ground in, Good Success recently.
In a match which was reduced to 37 overs due to a late start, Bartica won the toss and took first strike and were bowled out for 85 in 22.1 overs.
Opener Dwayne Singh top scored with 31 and Rohan Tulsieram contributed 18 as medium pacer Roopnarine Persaud grabbed 3-26 and left arm spinner Imran Khan 3-9.
Wakenaam in reply scored 86-2 in 9.3 overs with opener Wayne Osborne making 46 (2×6, 5×4 and Navishaul Pooran 30 (1×6, 5×4).
Meanwhile in other matches, Bartica got the better of Leguan by 2 wickets and East Bank E’bo overcame Bartica by 7 wickets.
At Whyte’s Park in Leguan, the hosts batted first and made 97 all out in 23 overs. Kumar Singh and Trevor Whyte scored 20 apiece while Sean Garraway took 2-15 and Kevin Federicks 2-12 for Bartica who responded with 98-8 in 20.3 overs. Kelon Tracy was their leading run getter with 30.
In another game at the same venue, Bartica batted first and were bundled out for 70 in 20 overs against East Bank Essequibo.
A. Legal captured 5-17 and Trevor Benn 3-20. East Bank in their turn at the crease won the game in 12 overs, ending on 71-3. L. Andrews made 27 as Dwayne Singh captured 2-16.
