Sans Souci defeated Zeelandia by 28 runs as play in the Sterling Products 40 overs cricket competition continued at the Wakenaam Community Centre Ground in Good Success recently.
Sans Souci won the toss and decided to bat first and made 234 all out in 39.3 overs. Essequibo 20/20 player Roopnarine Persaud top scored with 70, decorated with 9 fours and 2 sixes. He was well supported by Heera Sukram who made 55 (7×4) and Keddernauth Narine 34 as Navishaul Pooran bagged 3-29 and Devin Persaud 2-5 bowling for Zeelandia.
Zeelandia in reply lost two early wickets at 6 and 25, but Guyana Under-15 player Ricardo Adams and Essequibo middle order batsman Navishaul Pooran then joined forces and took the score to 142-2 in 20 overs, with sensible batting, as their team looked well set for victory.
Pooran was then run out for 59 (5x4s) by a direct throw from Gurnauth Khemraj, as he called his junior partner Adams, who played the ball to point for an ill advised single.
Adams then suddenly changed gear and hooked Roopnarine Persaud over mid wicket for 6 as he approached his half century.
He then followed that up with a lovely cover drive in the next over off Varounie Sasepaul for four but then lost his cool and was caught a mid wicket off the very next ball, as he attempted to clear the ropes. He went for a well played 46 with the score at 182-4 in 24 overs.
Zeelandia then lost their last six wickets for 24 runs to be all out for 206 in 34.1 overs.
Devin Persaud was the only other batsman offering any resistance with 18.
Wayne Osborne was Sans Souci’s best bowler with 3-23 while Sasepaul took 2-24.
