7- wicket hauls for Amit Ramroop, Dwayson Watson
The 2008 New Building Society Challenge Berbice Second Division 40-Over Cricket Competition continued recently with D’Edward of West Bank Berbice, Rose Hall Community Centre of East Canje and Showtime of Baracarra in the Canje Creek advancing to the last 16 play-off, after winning their respective zones.
In zone ‘B’, D’Edward, led firstly by 80 not out from Romine Boodram and 58 from Tuna Ramanan, then 5 for 20 from medium pacer Derick Lalsa, easily defeated Woodley Park Young Strikers by 101 runs.
In Zone ‘E’, defending champions Rose Hall Community Centre dismissed Defenders for 104 in 30 overs. Rose Hall Centre were 76 for 5 in 20.2 overs when rain intervened, and Rose Hall Centre won due by a superior run-rate.
In Zone ‘F’, after Showtime were bowled out for 140 in 20 overs by their fellow village team, Baracarra Young Strikers, their off spinners Kevon Joseph with 5 for 14 and Lindel Park 4 for 16, routed Strikers for 87 in 12 overs.
Also scoring half centuries were Robin Seebarran of Edinburgh, Tamesh Ramessar of Kennard’s Memorial, Ian
Mangal of Whim National and James Hart of Scotsburg United.
Mibicuri Strikers opening bowler Dwayson Watson took 7 for 16 to bowl out Kildonan for 52 in response to Mibicuri’s modest 87. Left-arm pacer Amit Ramroop took 7 for 20 to help his team Seawell bowl out Palmyra Young Strikers for a paltry 54. Seawell in turn also struggled before winning by 3 wickets.
At D’Edward, D’Edward best Woodley park Young Strikers by 101 runs. D’Edward 209 for 7 in their allotted 25 overs with Romine Boodram 80 not out, Tuna Ramanan 58, Mahendra Persaud 3 for 30. Woodley Park Young Strikers 108 in 15.1 overs with Derick Lalsa 5 for 20, Navin Rampersaud 3 for 11.
At Rose Hall in Canje, Rose Hall Community Centre beat Defenders on a better run-rate. Defenders made 104 in 30 overs, with Udesh Imrit 3 for 12, Kevin Ramdeen 2 for 9. Rose Hall Community Centre 76 for 5 in 20.2 overs.
