Tapeball cricket teams from around the country will battle for honours when the Guyana Softball and Windball Cricket Association (GS&WCA) stages its nationwide 15/15 tournament, billed to bowl off mid next month.
Tournament coordinator and committee member of the association, Rodnew McDonald disclosed that organisers expect close to 40 teams drawn from Georgetown, East Coast Demerara, West Demerara and East Bank Demerara to compete in the event. Attractive cash prizes and trophies are at stake, and teams have until June 6 to register with McDonald through telephone number 670-8872.
Cash and trophies will be awarded to the top three teams, while other prizes will be up for grabs for outstanding individual performances.
According to McDonald, a small entrance fee will be charged as efforts are being streamlined by the GS&WCA to return Softball and Tapeball cricket to its former glory locally.
All matches will be played at the association ground on Carifesta Avenue on Saturdays, Sundays and appropriate public holidays.
The tournament is expected to start by the second weekend in June.
