Dear Editor,
J. Bascom, I appreciate the fact that you have recognised the theoretical aspect of my passion for sports from your GT coverage dated May 19, 2009.
My presence at any Olympic Games will confirm the practical aspect. It would be hot crazy with excitement.
As I have said previously, the adventure to the Olympic level calls for major sacrifices, tough and strict regimens, which is definitely mandatory. I strongly believe and will continue to advocate that Guyana possesses gifted and talented sports personalities and it will someday be represented on the track and field podium at the Olympics.
In saying that, Cleveland Forde and Alianna Pompey just recently made me proud with their respective presence at the just concluded Trinidad and Brasil meetings. If I am correct, we got a gold and bronze. That continues to say something. Doesn’t it?
Had I the qualifications to undertake the task of training\coaching for track and field, it would be so intense and the end product will be “The El Dorado Athletic Soldiers.”
I would use the following movies, “An Officer and a Gentleman” and “Chariots of Fire” as guidelines with my approach.
Also, meditation, spiritual upliftment and animal instinct speed will balance off the other aspect of training.
Whether potential ambassadors take into consideration my suggestions, I am merely trying to help boost their morale for continuing to believe and challenge themselves for head to head global competition.
T. Pemberton
