In excess of $5M has been siphoned out of the Guyana Gold Board over a four months period.
This newspaper has learnt that the Board became aware of the fraud in the Gold Board after an anonymous letter was dispatched to the general manager of the entity and the Board of Directors.
The Board will host a meeting today to discuss the incident.
A member of the Board told Kaieteur News that a manager at the company was stealing a few pennyweights of gold since September last year.
The board member explained that only recently the manager was caught and requested to make restitution.
This newspaper was told that the amount stolen from the Gold Board is somewhere between $5-$10M.
