Dear Editor,
I have visited Barbados on two occasions. On those occasions, I was nervous at the airport because of all the bad things I heard about the Bajan immigration. The immigration officer checked their computer and to my pleasant surprise I was cleared without any hassle. In fact they wish me an enjoyable vacation with smiles. I enjoyed every moment on the island. The level of courtesy and efficiency of various services was very high. The environment is well kept very clean. While there, I was concerned about all the things I heard about Bajans and Guyanese. So I decided to enquire while I was enjoying my vacation. These were the kind of popular response I got :
Question: (01) Why the Bajans immigration hassle Guyanese?
Answer: The Bajan custom and immigration officials are highly trained in what they do. Many Guyanese believe that they can make them fools. Besides, they are the largest troublesome people to deal with. They are found to be dishonest too often. This reputation has left a stain on Guyanese as a whole. (Dem believe them smart)
Question: (02) How do you find the Guyanese Workers?
Answer: They can work hard but them cheap. If a work is for $10 an hour Guyanese will do it for $6 or less. Them greedy and covetous. They want to cut us out. The Guyanese women come here to break up our home by taking we man. This isn’t right. We will not allow it to happen
Question: (03) what about Guyanese East Indians?
Answer: Those people can live animals. Come let me show you. Plenty of them live in a two bed room house. I wonder how they can live so. You know how many times the police does raid that house. Them does bribe them. Now the police does go there every pay day. Our police are getting like Guyana police. The Guyanese bring all them dirty ways here. The Indians must go home to them Jagdeo government. We hear how them does pay fantoms to kill out black people. We don’t want them here.
Question 🙁 04) Do Bajans follow what goes on in Guyana Politics.
Answer: Yes. Guyana have some politicians that does amaze we (Bajans). Imagine a man was beaten, burn with acid, show marks of cruelty and violence and your president accept it as ruff up. Then we won’t like to see torture. When your president does come and talk here nobody here does take him serious. What can he tell us? We does read the Kaieteur news online. That paper bad for days. I was taken to a house in Black Rock. The house is referred to as “the Indian house”. I met some Guyanese there. There were 12 Indians( 11 male and 1 homosexual). All that were told to me were true. Prime Minister David Thompson mentioned that he don’t want these kind of living in Barbados. I totally agree with him. The Bajans have a right to protect their country’s image. After all, they earn a living from it.Tourist from all over the world go there for holiday.
Guyanese must come home .They must come together and change things for the better here. Running away will not solve the problem. This is our country, our home. Politics of destruction has been keeping this country from developing for many years. Let us remove all those Politian that are sucking the blood of this country. 2006 election, the Politians promised to create 60,000 jobs.
Where are those jobs? Thousands end up in Barbados and all over. We cannot be annoy with the Bajans because that is their country and their interest. We must look after ours. Guyanese must stop running all over and change things here. Leave the Bajans alone.
