An early morning accident at Two Miles Bartica has left 28-year-old Terrence Hughes in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The man sustained a broken right arm and foot and head injuries. According to relatives who contacted this newspaper yesterday, Hughes had just left his home at Two and Half Mile Potaro Bartica, to run an errand.
The relative further told Kaieteur News, “He was going in one direction and de truck and bus in another.”
According to eyewitnesses, Hughes was pushing his bicycle when the minibus, which was speeding, tried to overtake the truck, and collided with him.
The eyewitnesses however opined that the driver might not have even seen Hughes because the road is very dusty.
“This road just do over (repair) and when the vehicles on the road driving it does look like if they in de interior and it is very hard to see anything in front of you”.
The man was knocked unconscious and was rushed to the Bartica Hospital. He was later transferred to Georgetown Public Hospital because of the severity of his injuries.
Residents after learning about the accident immediately lamented the fact that there is dire need for more traffic ranks.
“We to get more traffic cops to monitor the road, because right now we only have one and he is on sick leave, so you see the predicament we in”.
