Brian Craig, 24, of Walker Terrace, East La Penitence, was yesterday remanded to prison on the charge of rape, by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.
It was alleged that the accused, on December 13, 2008 had carnal knowledge of a female without her consent.
He was not required to plead. He is being represented by attorney at law James Bond who told the court that Craig is a taxi driver who has sufficient ties to the community.
The lawyer added that his client has an unblemished record prior to this offence and that he is innocent.
However Police Prosecutor Denise Griffith objected to bail .She stated that the accused had a previous matter in another court and had not attended court. Griffith said that this is a clear indication that if Craig is granted bail there is definitely the likelihood of him not returning.
