Essequibians got a spanking new location to carry out their financial transactions, yesterday, when Demerara Bank opened its most recent branch at 41 Cotton Field, Essequibo Coast.
Minister of Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh, directors of Demerara Bank; Chandra Gajraj and Mr. Hemraj Kissoon; Chairman Dr. Yesu Persaud; Chief Executive Officer of the bank, Mr. Paravinchandra Dave; Essequibo Regional Vice Chairman, Vishnu Samaroo; and other dignitaries were there for the opening.
The ceremony began with religious renditions from representatives of the Hindu, Muslim and Christian faiths.
In his opening address, CEO of Demerara Bank, Mr. Dave, said that it was the huge demand by customers on the Coast that lent to the extension of the Demerara Bank to the Coast.
Vice Chairman Samaroo alluded to the numerous developmental transformations that the Coast has been experiencing, while encouraging the small gathering to do business with the bank.
Chairman of the Bank Dr. Yesu Persaud said, ‘Nothing happens, unless you make it happen’. He spoke about the opening of the first Demerara Bank in the city almost 15 years ago, and described the bank as ‘the best indigenous regulated banking service throughout the country’. He alluded to the bank’s success and the services offered.
Dr. Persaud also did not shy away from commending the continuous and dedicated services of the board of directors.
Before officially opening the bank, Dr. Ashni Singh elaborated mainly on the services the bank now offers and those that customers can readily access.
Dr. Singh encouraged prospective bankers to buy assets. He said that banks are established within the most productive areas, where the economy would be most active. Demerara Bank recently opened an outlet at Corriverton and plans to do the same at Grove/Diamond, before the end of the year.
