Rising Sun Turf Club of West Coast of Berbice will be the next venue on the calendar for the next meet, when the entity’s authorities in collaboration with the Brother Hood of St Andrew in the Anglican Diocese stage its first event for the year.
The meet will be a seven-race sprint card slated on Sunday May 31. This follows Sunday’s Kennard Memorial Turf Club Meet.
Over $2.5M in cash prizes is available along with trophies for the winners and other outstanding performers. Entries are set to close on Sunday May 22 and a number of the countries top horses have already taken entry.
Highlighting the days programme will be the feature B class event over a distance of 1400m where a whopping $300,000 is available for the winner.
The 3yrs old open 1100m sprint has $200,000 as the first prize.
In the E and lower there is $160,000 available for the winner and the distance is also 1100m. The G and lower 1400m gallop has purse of $100,000. The ‘I and lower 1100m will see the winner collecting $90,000.
The J and K sprint will go for a distance of 1100m with a first prize of $80,000 and the L class over a similar distance will see the winner pocketing $75,000.
The champion jockey and trainer will receive trophies compliments of Kevin Sunich of Trophy Stall, Bourda market. Race time is 13.30 hrs.
With all the race tracks in the country making tremendous strides at improving their facilities, the authorities at the Rising Sun Turf Club has joined in the fray and is doing a lot of sprucing up of the facilities at the moment.
The double-decker stand is being repaired for the adequate and absolute comfort for those in attendance.
The track is also being relayed.

Horse owners are also reminded to get their horses properly registered with the Guyana Horse Racing Authority, as those horses not properly entered will not be allowed to participate in the days proceedings.
