Forged driver’s licence lands man in court

Esan Hamer, 38, of 11 Side Line Dam, Tucshen was yesterday placed on $170,000 bail by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson on a charge of two counts of forgery and conspiracy.
It was alleged that the accused, between December 11, last year and May 15, last, at the Licence Revenue Office, with the intent to defraud, conspired with person or persons unknown to forge one driver’s licence. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
There was no objection to bail by the prosecution.
He is expected to make another court appearance on July 10.
And Shivwanti, 51, and Shivrani Singh, 49, both of Lot 1 Lamaha and Albert Streets, Queenstown, were both fined $120,000 each with an alternative of 12 months’ imprisonment for making false statement on a declaration form at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
It was alleged that the two on April 11 at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, also uttered a forged Jamaican Passport in the name of Shivrani Singh to an immigration officer, knowing that the document was false.
The defendants pleaded guilty to all charges. Attorney at law Rexford Jackson represented them.
According to the lawyer both defendants had migrated to Jamaica since 1985, and had only returned to Guyana to attend a meeting at the US embassy.
Jackson stated that it was while his clients were at the embassy that they were informed that their passports were forged.
The lawyer asked that the court take into consideration that his clients did not waste the court’s time, adding that it was the first time that they were ever entangled with the law.
