Following a colourful opening ceremony of the Annual Cheddi Jagan Memorial Football tournament in Berbice, Brazilla and Corriverton Links recorded wins.
Scottsburg United suffered at the hands of Brazillia 1-3. For Barzilla Sylvester Smith opened the scoring in the 1st minute followed by a Mark Amsterdam double in the 19th and 53rd minute. Trevor Rogers scored Scotsburg’s lone goal in the 68th minute.
At the Scottsburg Community ground, Corriverton Links hammered new comers Strike Force United of West Berbice 4-2. Sherwin Murray netted a brace (4th & 38th) with one each from Oliver Jaundoo (58) and Roger Peneux in the 62nd. Strike Force got their goals from K. Quintyn in the 18th and Leon Crawford 27th minutes.
In a female encounter to mark the launch of the tournament, Georgetown female team demolished their Berbice counterparts 10-0, winning for themselves the Janet Jagan Memorial trophy. The game was played in honour of Guyana’s first Female President.
Attending the launch at the Port Mourant Community Centre ground were Regional Chairman Zulfikar Mustapha, former Minister of Agriculture and Chairman of the Regional Commemorative Committee Navin Chandrapal, along with other members of the Region 6 Administration.
