Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar (RHTWSB), Young Warriors, West Berbice and Rose Hall Canje have advanced to the semi-finals of the Busta Champion of Champions cricket tournament being played in the Ancient County of Berbice.
Canje booked their place in the final four the easiest of the lot as they won by walk over from Scotsburg.
Playing at the Area ‘H’ ground, RHTWSB arrested Berbice Police by 7 wickets. Batting first after the match was reduced to 44 overs due to overnight rain; Police were off to a flying start with the opening pair of Cyrus Gibson and Kevin Henry blasting 44 off the first 5 overs.
But with the introduction of spin from the 6th over, the innings fell apart with off-spinner Andre Percival and left arm spinner Ravi Narine bowling well in tandem. Both openers fell in the space of two overs as Police slipped to 48-2 and were eventually knocked over for 111 in 32.3 overs.
Gibson top scored with 25, K. Henry 21 and Jerry Heyliger 20. Bowling for RHTWSB, off spinners Troy Mathieson took 3-15 and Assad Fudadin 3-17 while Percival and Narine had one each.
In reply RHTWSB reached 115-3 in 21.2 overs, Renwick Batson 27, Assad Fudadin 25, Jason Sinclair 20, Percival 15 not out and Michael Hicks 10, the principal contributors.
At Canje, Young Warriors cruised past Bermine by 7 wickets. Batting first in the match reduced to 40 overs, Bermine reached 140-8 with Essequibo Inter County player Andrew Williams leading with 37; Jamal La Fleur and Winston Smith contributed 19 each.
Bowling for Young Warriors, left arm spinner Charran Singh took 4- 25, Devindra Ramoutar 2-24, with Anil Beharry and Farouk Hussain one each. Young Warriors in reply reached 142–3 in 29 overs. Daryl Narine 41, Seon Hetmeyer 28 and Balram Samaroo an unbeaten 22 were the main scorers.
Over at the Blairmont ground, heavy rain caused the match to be reduced to 30 overs. Blairmont batting first after losing the toss rattled up 174 losing 4 wickets along the way. Ramesh Budhan slammed 64 and Bisnarine Basdeo 54, the two adding 104 for the 3rd wicket off 18.3 overs.
West Berbice easily knocked off the runs as they reached 178-5. Artley Bailey 47 slamming 5 sixes in the process. Eon Abdel backed up with 44, with West Berbice suffering 3 run outs.
The semi-finals are scheduled for this weekend with West Berbice clashing with RHTWSB at the Area ‘H’ ground and Young Warriors playing Rose Hall Canje at Canje.
