Haslington raids…Woman charged over magistrate’s stolen laptop
– slain bandit’s accomplice remanded

Two of the persons detained in last Saturday’s raid on the East Coast of Demerara which led to the recovery of two weapons and a laptop computer that was stolen from the home of Magistrate Nigel Hawke, were remanded to prison when they appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Issacs-Marcus yesterday at the Cove and John Magistrate’s Court.
And Christopher Higgins, who was held in the Haslington house where the weapons were recovered, was charged with four counts of robbery under arms stemming from an attack on an Enmore property last Friday night.
It is alleged that he and the now dead Courtney James had committed the robbery.
He is also charged with receiving stolen property and harbouring a wanted person.
He pleaded not guilty to all the charges and was remanded to prison until June 17.
Higgins, in proclaiming his innocence, had claimed that he only met James when he returned from the interior where he was working.
He said that he was not involved in any of the acts committed by James and only cooked and provided him with some food.
However investigators are claiming that it was Higgins who provided them with information that led to the stolen lap top computer.
Rehanna Payne, of Ogle Street, Triumph, who was also detained on Saturday, was charged with receiving stolen property.
She was found in possession of Magistrate Hawke’s stolen laptop computer.
The woman also pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison until May 22.
Kaieteur News understands that more persons are to be placed before the courts following the raids, which according to police have cracked a major criminal network.
