-$8M up for grabs
With a brief but spectacular ceremony at the Roraima Duke Lodge, Kingston, yesterday, GT&T launched its 2009 Jingles and Song Competition in the presence of the media and other special invitees.
While the initial competition in 2005 saw competitors receiving up to $100,000 in cash and prizes this year, there is some $8M in cash and prizes.
To enter this competition each applicant must fill out a Jingle Competition application form available at GT&T’s business offices countrywide, Courts retail locations, Anil Singh (GT&T Authorized Cellphone Vendor at Anna Regina Market), Essequibo, Kamal 2Ks Gift Centre, and Cellphone Store at Bartica Mall. Other locations include Imran and Sons entity at Rose Hall, Berbice and Arman, Corentyne, Berbice.
This competition is open to amateur singers aged between 16 and 30 years. For the purpose of this competition amateur singers are considered persons who do not earn their means of living from singing.
Applicants are ineligible if they already have any type of talent representation (for example, a talent agent or manager) or a music recording contract. The first, second and third place winners of the 2009 Cellink Jingle and Song competition will respectively receive a Motor Car, $500,000 and $250,000 cash, among other prizes.
This event is sponsored by Ansa McAl (Carib Beer), NCN, HJTV, Beharry Automative Limited and Impressions.
Speaking at the launch, Beharry Automative Limited’s General Manager, Suresh Rampersaud, noted that his entity was proud to be associated with the spectacular venture since it explores and unleashes the abundant untapped musical talent in Guyana.
He noted that this year’s competition is expected to bring out a high level of creativity among contestants, emphasizing that the first prize of a car should serve as a motivator to excel to those participating.
Ansa Mc Al, Nigel Worrell in a brief comment thanked GT&T for once again giving local artistes, ‘the ability to shine’ and wished potential contenders success in their endeavours.
NCN’s Raymond Azeez noted that his media entity was more than pleased to be associated with the competition, indication that the event assists greatly in nurturing talent in Guyana. He concluded by establishing the fact that NCN was more than pleased to be working along with GT&T, and other sponsors in the competition.
HJTV’s Marketing Representative, Simeon Francis, was more than appreciative of the venture nothing that their entity will do all it can in helping to make the event a success.
GT&T’s Director of Marketing and Sales, Wystan Robertson, noted that their company over time has done wonders in bringing local talent to the forefront.
He added that this is the company’s fourth round of producing local stars in the entertainment arena.
Roberts said that the venture allows contestants to move from their embolic stage to ultimate stardom.
While he noted that this year they have increased the level of public participation in the competition, he concluded that it brings out the best in local talent. He added that the competition is geared at showcasing and promoting local music and showcasing the potentials of the Caribbean.
The 2007 winner, Cleon Cadogan, who was present at the function, noted that since he won the contest it life was changed dramatically since he had the opportunity to travel and interact in diplomatic forums. He said that while his single ‘Destiny Speaks’ is not aired extensively in Guyana it has however made its mark in Canada, the USA and several Caribbean states.
Applicants who are short-listed for the audition will be formally notified within five business days of the closing date for the submission of applications. Only short listed applicants will be contacted.
First and second place jingle and song winners will be required to take part in GT&T sponsored and approved promotions and publicity events and will be required to sign a contract to this effect.
The closing date for the submission of entries is Wednesday May 27, 2009.
JUDGING
GT&T has selected a panel of judges for this competition and this panel will be responsible for shortlisting the applicants based on the completed entries and audition.
The Jingle and the Song would be judged separately.
