– Jumbo Joy returns to winning ways
– Tropical Passion also impressive at KMTC Meet
Jumbo Joy of the Jumbo Jet Stable returned to winning ways with a clinical victory in the B class event as Finishing Touch scores two victories, while Tropical Passion was also outstanding when the Kennard Memorial Turf Club held a successful one day Meet on Sunday last at the Club’s Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne racetrack.
In the feature B class event, Jumbo Joy ridden by Yap Drepaul ran a well planned and organised race to canter to victory and secure the $350,000 first prize and The Eldorado trophy compliments of DDL, in the 6 Furlong event, which was the distance for all the events.
Sequins started at a blistering pace as the animals tore out of the starting gates in the seven-horse contest. There was some controversy at the start with Irish Gel and Laura lee In Flight bumping into another top contender The Message thus throwing the three animals off their stride. Sequins in the meanwhile took full advantage and continued to carry the pace, with the others at its mercy.
The experience Paul Delph piloting the Message was able to quickly steady the animal and began to chase down the front runners, way down the back stretch. Jumbo Joy in the meanwhile was bidding its time, moving along with the chasing pack.
As the animals took the far turn and entered the home stretch, it was Jumbo Joy, who was leading the pack, as The Message to make up a lot of ground. However there was no stopping Jumbo Joy, as the four-year-old animal romped to victory, chased by The Message, Sequins held on for third and Laura Lee in Flight recovering to place fourth.
Tropical Passion with Kumar Singh on board, with a passionate sprint beat the rest of the field in the co feature G class match up and carted off the $200,000 first prize for the Rumours Racing Stable and owner Steve Mootoo.
Stablemates, The Gap and Laura Lee in Flight of the Customs racing stable carried the early pace. However, Tropical Passion, spurred by Kumar Singh took over the lead and with a blaze of speed crossed the finish line. Pre race favourites Laura Lee in Flight, The Gap, and Matterazi took up the other top positions.
Finish Touch owned by Mahendra Persaud of the Mahaicony Stable with Kumar Singh again in the aboard, was at its destructive best on the homestretch, outdistancing its opponents with two devastating runs to win both the G class and I class events.
The animal first took care of its opponents in the G class race to the first prize of $160,000 as Prospectors Pride, Rude Boy and Alphabet all had their plans rearranged finishing second, third and fourth respectively.
Finishing Touch then powered to victory in the I class event and claimed the $130,000 purse on offer.
Star Streak owned by Isaac Dipnarine, shone brightly in winning the I 3 maiden contest, as Clear victory, Fantastic Light and McQueen occupied the other top spots. Lenny’s O Halo was too strong for Power Master, as it took care of the unclassified 1and 2 event as Rukia and Foolish Pleasure rounded out the top four.
Clear Victory made sure nothing was in its way as it returned to conquer all in the unclassified non winner’s race.
Kumar Singh was adjudged the Champion Jockey, while Mahendra Singh was crowned champion trainer and Fitting Touch the top horse on show while the Singh stable received the champion stable award. They all received Trophies compliments of Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall Bourda market.
Over $3 million were on offer during the day’s contest with 70 horses taking part.
