Mystery surrounds the wounding of a Bee Hive, East Coast Demerara man who sustained a gaping wound to the back of his head at about 20:30 on Sunday night.
Colin Brown, who identified himself as a construction worker, said he was walking near the Bee Hive seawall with another villager when he heard what sounded like a gunshot.
He alleged that seconds later, the man with whom he was walking whipped out a cutlass and chopped him behind his head.
The man reportedly then fled.
Brown cannot give a reason for the man’s attack, since he claimed that he knew the assailant but had no previous problems with him.
“I hear the gunshot but I didn’t see he with no gun. Then all of a sudden he chop me behind me head. I see when he chop me,” Brown told this newspaper.
He said that he managed to solicit the help of a minibus driver who took him to the Clonbrook Police Station where he reported the matter.
Up to late last night the police were still looking for the assailant, who is said to be a drug addict in the community.
