Play in this year’s Al Sport & Tour Promotions / Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sport Primary Schools Windball Cricket Championships continued recently with matches in Berbice, West Bank Demerara and Georgetown.
At Bush Lot Farm Corentyne
Boys –
McGowan defeated Alness by 10 wickets.
Alness batted first and were dismissed for 30.
Mc Gowan replied with 31-0. Godfrey Blair made 29.
Auchlyne beat Kildonan by 4 runs.
Auchlyne 54-4, Godfrey Glosgow top-scored with 25.
Kildonan 50 all out Micheal De Souza 17.
Eversham won by 6 wickets against Kildonan.
Mc Gowan 64-2, Shadique George 31, G Blair 30.
Eversham 65-4, Kenan Sampson 16.
Girls –
McGowan beat Kildonan by 14 runs.
Mc Gowan 37-0, Kimmore Thomas 13.
Kildonan 23-4.
Kildonan defeated Eversham by 10 wickets.
Eversham made 35-3 with Aminia Moore hitting a top-score of 14.
Kildonan in reply, reached 36-0, Christine Quintin 20.
Auchlyne won by 19 runs over Alness.
Auchlyne took first strike and compiled 53-3 with Doneska Walrond, stroking 15.
Alness was then restricted to 34-4 when the allotted overs expired. Karen Griffith made 19.
Over at the Wales Community Centre ground-
Finals (West Bank Demerara)
Kawall defeated La Retraite by 7 wickets.
La Retraite closed on 48-5 off the allotted 6 overs with Keron Dowridge 14, Tapesh Parasram 10 Ramnarine Singh 10. Bowling for Kawall, M Bhola took 2-15.
Kawall in reply, ended on 52-3. A Juman hammered 38. Dowridge grabbed 2-2.
Earlier in semi-final action-
La Retraite beat Goed Fortuin by 33runs.
La Retraite made 78-4, K. Dowridge 35, Joel Persaud 18. Sanjay Singh 2-12.
Goed Fortuin 45-4, Julian Smith 17. T. Parasram 2-13.
Kawall squeezed past McGillivry by 3 wickets.
Mc Gillivry 44-8, Keenand Douglas 10. Reez Khan snared 4 wkts, Mochan Bhola and O. Ramlogan each picked up 2 wickets.
In reply, Kawall reached 55-7 with Ameer Juman 12. Micheal Samuels 2-8.
In the Girls finals-
2008 Region #3 champ Mc Gillivary defeated Two Brothers by 10 wickets.
Two Brothers batted first and scored 39-3 with Shondell Peters 11, being the top-scorer.
Mc Gillivary replied with 44-0.
Thea Alfred 22 and Satyawattie Sugrim 10 were the principal contributors.
They will now await the West Coast Demerara, East Bank Essequibo, Leguan and Wakenaam winners.
Georgetown- Girls
St. Angela’s beat St. Stephen’s by 19 runs.
St Angela’s made 59-0 with Atifa Paul 21 and Chelsea Denny 14.
St Stephens in reply, could only muster 40-4. Anastacia Ifill 13.
West Ruimveldt defeated St. Agnes by 3 runs.
West Ruimveldt totalled 61-1. Lotoya Garrway 30, Alicia Richards 20.
St Agnes in their response reached 58-1.
Bonita Bernard hit a top-score of 27, while Shadiyah Khan added 11.
Last year’s runner up team ABC Academy went down to debutant Josel Education Inst by 8 wickets.
ABC 41-2, Mohanie Anganoo 26, Dian Persaud 11.
Josel replied with, 43-2, Abiola Browman 19, Keishawna Nurse 18.
Smith’s Memorial beat Comenius by 9 wickets.
Comenius 65-1, Heather Stephens 28, Tanya Mc Farlane 24.
Smith Memorial 66-1, Keshauna Mc Rae 29, Chimaine Collins 24.
St. Ambrose defeated Monar Educational Institute by 10 wickets.
Monar Educational Inst 46-0, Seeta Pooran 28, Yugeeta Ragoonandan 16.
St Ambrose 47-0, Jevina Sampson 26 Kimeka Beveney 21.
Rama Krishna went down to North Georgetown by 10 wickets.
Rama Krishna 91-1, Indira Williams 38, Devina Mangru 30.
North Georgetown in their turn at the crease reached 93-0 with Lotoya Henry 43 and Queen Latifa Henry 30, being the principal scorers.
Action continues during the week at various venues.
Meanwhile, Sports Minister Dr. Frank Anthony and Director of Sport Neil Kumar are expected to witness the start of competition in the Boys category of the Georgetown Zone which is set for today, at the Gymnasium.
