When it comes to honouring their dead, some Muslims take it very seriously and when they are prevented from doing so, it is very hard to stomach.
One such individual is Mark Deen who had an injunction filed against him by his brother in law.
The injunction seeks to restrict Deen from entering a family property at Dundee, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara where his father and other relatives are buried.
The injunction was filed on March 9th this year and since then Deen is finding it hard to come grips with the situation.
The situation has led to some bad blood between Deen and his brother-in-law who is before the court for wantonly driving his vehicle in a manner that resulted in injuries to Deen’s wife, Zalima.
According to the Quran, the Holy Prophet, Peace Beyond to Him, has recommended that the Muslims go to the graves of their relatives, especially their parents and perform DU’a (prayers).
However, Kaieteur News understands that when Deen and his wife turned up at the Mahaicony property on March 3, they found it locked.
Their brother in law Kahkan Ramzan who claims to be the executor of the estate had virtually shut them out.
A few minutes after arriving at the property Ramzan pulled up and claimed to be the owner of the property.
The court was told that Ramzan allegedly drove his car with intent to run over Deen who managed to get out of the way.
Deen’s wife then attempted to intervene but Ramzan drove the car in a dangerous manner, knocking Zalima Deen to the ground.
He then fled the scene and subsequently went to the police station where he reported that the couple assaulted him.
Meanwhile, Zalima Deen left to see a doctor, who diagnosed that she sustained injury to her right foot.
At the time the police were unaware that the Deens were the victims of a deliberate act of wanton driving by Ramzan.
On April 5, the Deens went back to the police and presented a medical report of the injury the woman sustained.
The Deens are scheduled to appear before a High Court judge to challenge the injunction.
Attorney at law Michael Somersall is representing them.
