A 56-year-old West Berbice woman and her 30-year-old son were allowed $25,000 bail each when they appeared at Weldaad Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, charged with assault causing actual bodily harm.
Lilawatie Seepersaud and her son, Arnold Seepersaud, of a popular business place in Rosignol, West Bank Berbice allegedly committed the offence on 23-year-old Shaneeza Hartman on Sunday last.
Hartman had earlier in the week told Kaieteur News that jealousy about her relationship with Mrs. Seepersaud’s husband had been the motive behind her being set upon and severely beaten by the pair.
At Weldaad on Thursday, the two Seepersauds however pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate Tejnarine Ramroop allowed them bail after Police Prosecutor Sergeant Hattie Anthony offered no objections.
They are to reappear at Blairmont Court on June 6 next.
In the same court yesterday, Frederick Etwaroo of Rosignol, West Bank Berbice was jailed for three months for stealing a pair of trousers from a boutique in the village.
Magistrate Tejnarine Ramroop had given Etwaroo the opportunity to choose his penalty for the act.
“I can take three months, Sir,” Etwaroo said. The Magistrate acceded.
Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Hattie Anthony, told the Court that the defendant walked into Doreen’s Boutique at Rosignol on Monday last, picked up the trousers and walked out without paying.
He was subsequently arrested and charged.
