Police on the Essequibo Coast are awaiting the family members of a man to positively identify him after his body was fished out of the Pomeroon River.
Reports are that the man who has only been identified as “Malcolm” fell into the River on Thursday night during a drinking spree.
This newspaper was told that the man was on a fishing vessel, which was moored at the Charity wharf consuming alcohol with friends when he fell. An immediate search by the man’s friends proved futile. It was only yesterday some time around 14:30 hours the man’s body was seen floating at the area where he reportedly fell.
Reports are that the body bore no marks of violence when it was recovered.
However, it appeared that fishes had already begun feasting on the remains.
The four friends with whom the man was drinking have since been detained for questioning. The crew was expected to head out to sea some time today for an extended fishing trip.
Up to press time yesterday the friends were only able to provide information that the man resides at Shell Beach, Upper Waini area.
