“Is me own yes, but it belongs to me bird. Is he does eat it,” said convicted drug dealer Winston Hetmeyer, 50, of Angoy’s Avenue (Cow Dam), New Amsterdam Berbice, when he appeared at the New Amsterdam Magistrates’ Court.
He was charged with possession of 46 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
When he appeared before Magistrate Geeta Chandan Persid-Edmond he pleaded guilty. Prosecutor Inspector Donna Grant Fraser said that on March 13, the police were on patrol in the Angoy’s Avenue area when they noticed the accused acting in a suspicious manner. They challenged him, stopped and searched and the drugs were found concealed on his person. He was arrested and charged.
In court, the man begged the Magistrate and asked her to see with him. He told her that he would not waste the court’s time. He told the court that the drugs were his, but he does not use it and would give it to his birds, so as to keep them in top shape.
Magistrate Edmond them sentenced him to three years in jail and ordered that he pay $10,000 or spend a further 20 days in jail.
