The 2009 Nassau Cricket League season in the United States got underway last weekend at the Flushing Meadows Park with United Sports recording a lopsided victory over Eagles.
On a sunny day with windy condition, Eagles won the toss and invited United Sports to bat on a pitch that was uneven for batting. However United Sports rattled up 255 for 7 off 40 overs with former Guyana wicketkeeper batsman Vishal Nagamootoo scoring a classy century (103) that was decorated with 14 boundaries, while an equally entertaining 58 from H. Hardeo which included 7*4s and 2*6s along with David Mohamed’s aggressive 41 steered the batting side to a good total.
United Sports opening pair of Nagamootoo and Hardeo put on 123 for the first wicket before Hardeo departed bringing to the crease USA Captain Steve Massiah, who is playing his first game for United Sports. He failed to trouble the scorers, being unfortunately given out LBW.
Nagamootoo and Mohamed stabilized the middle with a 77 runs partnership. Bowling for Eagles, former
West Indies test player Ryan Ramdass and N. Ramotar had 2 wickets a piece.
In reply, Eagles were all out for 112 off 25.2 overs with R. Altab hitting a top score of 24 and R. Seochand 23.
Bowling for United Sports J. Lall captured 4 for 26 off 8 overs, while Nagamootoo and Massiah took 2 wickets apiece for 7 and 24 runs respectively.
United Sports Club’s next game is against Carpet Doctor.
