DDL lends customary support
An exciting day of horseracing is envisaged when the Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) stages its Post Arrival Day Meeting scheduled for the Club’s Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne Berbice, headquarters on Sunday.
According to President of the KMTC, Justice Cecil Kennard, over 52 horses have already signed up to participate in the day’s activities and more than 12 horses would compete in each race. The event, sponsored by the Demerara Distillers Ltd, Eldorado brand, will feature some of the country’s best horses as well as some bred in the United States of America.
Eight horses would compete in the feature attraction, the ‘C’ and lower Class over 6 furlongs. Among them are Annie’s Playmate, Sweet Caramel, Finale Jade and Irish Gell. The other horses competing in this race are all Trinidad and Tobago bred. They are Sequin, Jumbo Joy, The Gap and The Message among others.
President of the KMTC, Justice Cecil Kennard convened a press conference at his Brickdam office yesterday afternoon and informed media operatives that all plans are in train for a successful meet.
DDL Brands Manager, (Wines and Spirits), Maria Munroe was also present at the function. She took the opportunity to present the trophy up for grabs to Kennard. “DDL and Eldorado are pleased to offer support to the development of sports,” she said. “The sponsorship deal is not as extensive as that offered last year but we have still managed to offer something significant,” Munroe assured.
The other events to be contested are, G and lower Class, Unclassified 3 (L) Non winners, Unclassified 1&2 (J&K), F & Lower class 13 and Lower (maiden) and the I & Lower Class. Prizes in the races range from $16,000 to $350,000 for first place in the C and Lower Class event.
Meanwhile, Kennard thanked DDL for their support while assuring Turfites that the weather conditions on the Corentyne have been favourable over the past weeks.
He anticipates continued good weather for the event. He also informed that supporters wishing to use the bridge can do so between the hours of 10:00hrs -11:00hrs.
The events are being run under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority and horse owners are reminded that an entrance fee of $2,000 is being charged for each horse while horse owners are reminded to have their animals examined by the vet not later than 11:00hrs on race day.
