Dear Editor,
It has always been said that everyone should respect their elders and more so prominent persons in society, regardless if one should question their physiognomic condition.
I will always adhere to such philosophy of life; remembering that one day some of us will get old.
Having said such, while I do respect the Minister of Home Affairs not just because of his person, but most importantly the office of which he holds, I am very appalled and somewhat bewildered over the comment of this minister.
After listening to the goodly gentlemen from the CARICOM Secretariat Mr. Greene’s comment of the poor condition of our police lockups where prisoners are treated inhumanly, instead of the Minister strive on this weakness he chose to lash out at the goodly gentleman.
While he respect somewhat Mr. Greene’s view, he has let down many of us in this country by asserting that if citizen doesn’t what to face this situation they should adhere to the Rule of Law.
I am not condoning crime whatsoever, but they are many innocent persons placed in these lockups. Have they broken the Law?
No. Should they, or any other human being be treated inhumanly regardless of any crime they may have or may not have committed?
No. A question for the Minister, “Who determines the guilt or innocence of a person?
Another thing the Minister failed to remember or chose not to is a few years ago a team of British experts who were here, recommended that some of these lockups be closed. What happen to that? Also many prominent including Member of Parliament and others recommended that these lockups, should either be closed or rebuilt in such a way as not to destroy the mere fabric of our Human Godly Rights.
I have said time and time, many of the mismanagement done by this government will and cannot be tolerated by many countries even those close to us. The government or ministers would have been long gone. As one man puts it, “We are afraid of the government and as such they get away with even murder.”
Mr. Rohee, you are around long enough; silly talks should be long gone. Sir, it’s time for more constructive and proactive action within this government.
