Esuan Crandon spurs Merry Boys to next stage
Merry Boys celebrated their controversial group ‘C’ quarter-final place in the West Indies Players Association 20/20 cricket tournament in Trinidad with an emphatic 10-wicket win against Group ‘A’ winners Powergen.
Guyanese Esuan Crandon grabbed 4-24 from 4 overs in a Man-of-the-Match performance to help dismiss Powergen for 109 in 19 overs before Alcindo Holder (58) and Mario Belcon (51) saw Merry Boys to 113-0 in 14.5 overs. Former Guyana and West Indies leg-spinner Mahendra Nagamootoo, who made 9 from five balls with the bat, had 0-28 from his 4 overs for Powergen. Royston Crandon, the other Guyanese in the Merry Boys team, had 0-19 from 4 overs
After Preysal beat DCC last Wednesday to top group ‘C’ Merry Boys, who lost to DCC in their opening match before beating Preysal, were adjudged the Group ‘C’ runner-up to advance to yesterday’s match.
DCC had protested the decision claiming that their run rate was better than Merry Boys but after a late night meeting on Wednesday, the DCC were told they were knocked out of the competition.
