Pele Football Club held off a late surge by Georgetown Football Club (GFC), to record a 3-2 victory in last Friday’s opening clash, of the GT&T Cellink Plus Premier League double-header, at the Tucville ground.
For Pele, Marvin Joseph netted a hat-trick in the 23rd, 34th and 38th minutes to put his team comfortably ahead by the halfway mark.
However, a tenacious GFC fought back through Sherwin Smith who scored a double in the 57th and 70th minutes.
In the ‘nightcap’, GDF scored a 2-0 win over Fruta Conquerors. Marlon Benjamin shot a second half double with goals in the 53rd and 80th minutes.
The tournament continues tomorrow with another double-header at the Tucville ground, kicking off from 6:00pm.
GFC come up against GDF in the first game, while at 8:00pm Pele challenge Fruta Conquerors.
More action is set for Sunday at the same venue with Flamingo playing BK Western Tigers in the opener, while Alpha United battle Sunburst Camptown in what is expected to be an entertaining contest.
