…five reported in two days, one dies
Over the past two days the staff of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation’s Accident and Emergency Unit has been overwhelmed with the number of attempted suicide cases.
On Monday alone there were three, while for yesterday, there was another and one death.
On Monday, Terry Joseph, 24, of Herstelling, Mohan Lall, 21, of Canal Number One, and Parbattie Baichu, 52, of Rahaman Park, were admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital after ingesting poison.
Baichu may have mistakenly ingested the poison during a drunken rage. The circumstances surrounding the other two persons are unclear.
However their conditions are being monitored.
Meanwhile, yesterday an 18-year-old Shell Road, Kitty man succumbed while receiving treatment at the GPHC’s A&E Unit.
The man died around 16:46 hours yesterday after he ingested one carbide tablet which is use for killing rats and other rodents.
This newspaper was told that Evander Johnson, of 10 Shell Road, Kitty ingested the tablet some time around 13:30 hours yesterday. He died a few hours later.
Also yesterday Parmanand Persaud, of Enmore, East Coast Demerara ingested a pesticide. However the circumstances surrounding the incident were unclear.
He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital by his brother.
