Holding true to its motto, ‘Adding Value Everyday’, Manager of Courts Guyana Inc, Lester Alvis in delivering the feature address at yesterday’s launching of the Guyana Football Association (GFA), organised Pee-Wee Under-11 tournament in the entity’s Training Room, promised the company’s continued sponsorship of the event.
“As part of our corporate commitment to the development of youths, we will continue to be the official sponsor of Pee-Wee football in Guyana, thereby holding true to our motto of ‘Adding Value Everyday’, Alvis said.
Attended by senior executives of the company and the GFA which included President Troy Mendonca, Vice-President Jason Benjamin, General Secretary Marlan Cole and Banks DIH PRO Troy Peters, Alvis during his speech stated that the sporting arena is not new to Courts, but more specifically, that it remained committed to the sustainability and growth of Pee-Wee football in Guyana.
According to the Manager, the total value of the investment is in excess of $500,000; further pointing out that the entity is delighted to have added value to the lives of the participants.
“We will continue to do so through our partnership with the GFA,” Alvis assured.
This is the second year that Courts is the official sponsor of the tournament and Alvis extended thanks to the coaches and parents, for recognising that this form of the sport will teach the young players life skills such as discipline and commitment, while providing them the opportunity to display their talent.
He also extended thanks to Banks DIH for the provision of its ground free of charge and the concession on the snacks in addition to supplying the energy drinks for the players.
Mendonca in his presentation stated how happy the GFA was to be in partnership with Courts and Banks DIH, pointing out that even though the Under-11 category is the lowest level to be played in Guyana, it is the stage where they are taught the basics, as it relates to the game.
“It is here they learn how to receive and deliver a pass, shoot properly among other techniques and as the jargon goes “you do not wait until the tree gets old to try to bend it, but instead you do so very early”.
He also urged coaches not to see the tournament as another one, but use the opportunity to teach the players the right things.
Peters in his remarks reminded the audience that Banks DIH has always been a silent partner in the tournament. “We’ve been closely associated with the GFA and has offered immense support to the association both in the past and present,” Peters reminded.
Peters also paid tribute to the solid relationship that exists between the two companies (Banks DIH and Courts Guyana Inc), before wishing the organisers and the teams the best of luck during the tournament.
The occasion was chaired by Courts PRO Zeya Nasir Ramnauth.
The competition will see 10 teams battle for top honours and they are divided in two groups of five.
In Group ‘A’ are: Fruta Conquerors, Santos, Marian Academy, Renaissance and Riddim Squad, while Group ‘B’ consists of Sunburst Camptown, Uprising, Thomas United, Pele and BK International Western Tigers.
The defending champions are Fruta Conquerors and the tournament kicks-off on Saturday, at Thirst Park with four matches, starting 13:00 hrs.
