An investigating officer attached with the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit was yesterday charged and placed on $75,000 bail after he tried to pervert the course of justice.
Thirty-six-year-old Antonio Szale, of 32 Lyng Street, Charlestown, pleaded not guilty to a charge which states that on April 19, last, he attempted to pervert the course of justice in the Colin Mack rape trial.
His lawyer had argued that he has no previous brushes with the law. He further stated that his client poses no flight risk.
However Police Prosecutor Seetaram objected to bail and told the court that the preliminary inquiry is still ongoing and he may continue to interfere with the virtual complainant.
His lawyer interjected and told the court that his client knows that the matter is a very sensitive matter and would not interfere with the VC.
He added that Szale is very sickly because of injuries he suffered from an accident a few years back.
The lawyer stated that his client suffers from mini seizures.
Bail was granted and the accused is expected to make his next court appearance on May 27.
Promoter Colin Mack was remanded almost a month ago after he was charged with raping a 19-year-old female, on April 12.
His preliminary inquiry has commenced before the Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The accused Colin Mack is expected to make another court appearance on May 15.
