A mason learnt on Monday just how dangerous it was to leave his door open in the wee hours of the morning. Robbers attacked, bound and gagged him before escaping with $30,000 he had secured in his wardrobe.
Dwayne Tucker, 30, of Princes Street, Lodge, told this newspaper that around 03:00 hrs on Monday he was watching television in his dining room and had failed to lock the door leading into the hallway.
He said that he was so engrossed in the movie that he failed to see when some three men entered the build via the open door.
Tucker said all he felt was the cold steel of a gun muzzle as it was placed to his head. Then there was a booming male voice said “Don’t move or we gon kill you”.
He said even as he remained frozen in shock the men began demanding cash and other valuables.
He said for fear of his life he indicated that he only had $30,000 stored in his wardrobe and with the single gun aimed at his back the men ordered him to get it to them. Tucker was in for even more unpleasantries after he handed over the cash since the men then tied him up and gagged him before making their escape.
He managed to wriggle and worm his way to nearby window after which he broke the glass by kicking at it. He somehow managed to remove the cloth they had used to gag him and screamed for help thus alerting the neighbours who promptly called the police.
Police ranks arrived soon after and loosened his bounds, by which time the bandits had long disappeared.
Police at the East La Penitence Police Station are investigating the matter.
