On Sunday last, four inmates from the New Opportunity Corps on the Essequibo Coast escaped.
The escapees are Barrington Cambridge, 15, Prince Pickery, 16, Errol Johnson, 16, and Clairmont Wilson, 16.
According to reports the four fled the facility some time between 16:00 and 17:00 hours. The inmates were serving time at the correctional facility for offences including break and enter and larceny, wandering and possession of narcotics.
Early yesterday morning two of the four, Cambridge and Pickery, were recaptured but Johnson somehow managed to escape the police dragnet at Parika by jumping into the river somewhere in the vicinity of Bushy Park.
According to sources it is believed that the escapees somehow managed to board the MV Malali, which left the Adventure Ferry Stelling for Parika.
However while the escapees were about to leave the boat at Parika Ferry Stelling, they were confronted by police ranks.
The fourth escapee, Clairmont Wilson has not been seen since.
In the meantime persons have raised their concern over the poor security at the NOC.
In recent times there has been an increase in the number of persons escaping from the facility.
The escapees are often responsible for petty crimes in communities along the Essequibo Coast.
Residents of Essequibo are appealing to the relevant authorities to review the security measures, which are currently in place at the facility.
