Scotia Bank pampers mothers at Good Samaritan Home
NEW AMSTERDAM, BERBICE – Women at the Good Samaritan Home at 41 Stanleytown in New Amsterdam were given the ‘royal treatment’ on Friday when staff members of the New Amsterdam Branch of the Bank of Nova Scotia visited them.

The occasion was in observance of Mother’s Day. The 11 occupants, whose ages ranged from 67 to 89, were fêted and received gifts.
Personal Banking Officer Justine Lee explained that this is an annual feature, dating back to 2001. The group also lends support to the Home at Christmas time.
The women expressed their gratitude to the team and said how touched they were to be remembered on Monday’s Day.
They called on other corporate citizens to imitate the actions of the Bank of Nova Scotia, New Amsterdam Branch.
Another senior member of the Scotia Bank staff, Sunita Aziz noted that the group has been reaching out to communities at different points during the year.
At Easter time, they donated kites and other goodies to the children of the Alpha Home at Gay Park on the outskirts of New Amsterdam.
In April the group embarked on a mission-the Children’s Reading Programme, which is aimed at promoting literacy among the young ones and also an attempt to re-introduce the art of reading to a generation obsessed with the television.
This is done in collaboration with the National Library and would wrap up in December. The group meets every second Saturday in the month from 9:00 to 11:00 hours.
So far, close to 40 children from New Amsterdam and its environs have benefited from this exercise. Interested children can contact the staff members on 333-4154 to register.
