Good Success defeated Sans Souci by 3 runs in the final of the Michael Harrilall Speed Boat Service 20/20 cricket competition, played recently at the Wakenaam Community Centre Ground in Good Success.
The home team won the toss, took first strike, but lost two quick wickets to leave the score at 27-2 in 4 overs. Opener Abdool Salim 33, Wazeer Mohamed 30 and Nazeer Mohamed 38 saw them to 138-8 when their overs expired. Keddernauth Narain 4-17 and Gurnauth Khemraj 3-15 were the main wicket-takers for Sans Souci.
The visitors in reply lost opener Wayne Osborne (6) LBW to Chandreka Ragnauth in the first over at 6-1. They never really recovered despite Varounie Sasepaul (20), Jaggernauth Manbodh (14), Heera Sukram (14), Ceon Venture (12) and were eventually all out for 102 in 19.5 overs.
Ragnauth (2-28), Wazir Khan (2-22), Imran Khan (2-9) and Nazeer Mohamed (2-21) bowled well for Good Success. Sans Souci collected the runner’s prize while their captain Roopnarine Persaud received a T-Shirt from the sponsor.
Nazeer Mohamed was adjudged the man-of-the-match. He collected a trophy and a T-Shirt for his effort.
Meanwhile in the semi-finals, Good Success defeated Zeelandia by 9 wickets and Sans Souci got the better of Sans Souci Jaguars by 5 wickets. Scores: Zeelandia SS – 65 all out in 16.1 overs. (Dennis Adams 20, Wazir Khan 3-6, Nazeer Mohamed 3-7) lost to Good Success SC 66-1 in 8 overs (Abdool Salim 31, Chandreka Ragnauth 24).
Sans Souci Jaguars SC 99-9 in 20 overs (Javid Khan 22, Zaheer Mohamed 20, Wayne Osborne 3-15, Roopnarine Persaud 2-12) lost to Sans Souci SC – 100-7 in 18 overs (Wayne Osborne 52, Moin Khan 3-26).
At the presentation ceremony, chairman of the Wakenaam Cricket Committee, Sheik Ahmad congratulated the winning team while captains of the finalists, Sans Souci’s Roopnarine Persaud and Good Success’ Mustak Mohamed, thanked the sponsor Michael Harrilall Speed Boat service for sponsoring the competition.
Mr. Harrilall thanked the teams for participating and said this is one way his business is giving back to the Wakenaam Community. (Zaheer Mohamed)
