Outstanding competitors at the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club season opening Meeting, which was staged last Sunday at the South Dakota Circuit received their prizes during a ceremony held at the club’s Headquarters, on Albert Street, Friday evening.
Topping the list of awardees were Paul Vieira, Kristian Jeffrey, Stephen Vieira and Ryan Rahaman.
Paul Vieira copped three first places in the Group 4 category; Jeffrey produced a similar performance in the go-kart division; Stephen Vieira took the chequered flag thrice, while Rahaman also crossed the line ahead of the field three times.
Other impressive performances came from Ravi Singh, who won two races; Raymond Ally, two first places and a third in the Group 2A category; Motilall Deodass, two first and a second and Christopher McLean, who took the chequered flag twice, to go with a second place finish.
President of the GMR&SC Vishok Persuad speaking at the occasion thanked the racers for providing a day of exciting races and even recognised the spread of results, adding that it suggested the sport was evidently growing in stature as well as the seriousness in which the competitors were taking the preparation of their machines.
He also pointed out that the attendance at the season opener was the biggest witness in almost three years, another positive indicator of the sport’s development.
Persaud then thanked all the sponsors who made it possible for the success of the Meeting. They included Ansa McAl, Beharry Automotive, GT&T Cellink Plus, Guyana Times, E- Networks, Automotive Art, CCS Guyana Ltd, Ray’s One Stop Auto Parts, Best But Auto Sales, Infab, Secure Innovations and Concepts Inc, Mines Services, Rent-A-Tent, Hand-in-Hand Financial Group, Japarts, Palm Springs Farm, Kings Jewellery, E.C Vieira Investments, Jiffi Lubes, Readymix Guyana Ltd, Steve’s Jewellery and Castrol / Guyana Oil Company.
