Fyrish # 2 Masjid defeated # 1 Masjid in the final of the Berbice Zone of the Inter- Jamaat Countrywide softball cricket tournament organised by the Guyana Softball League and sponsored by West Indian Sports Complex.
Fyrish # 2 Masjid won the toss and inserted #1 and were left wondering if they had made the right decision, with the first four balls going for 20 runs off the bowling of Rocky Ali.
The man doing the damage was Imran Hoosein, but he was eventually bowled off the last ball in that over following which, things were back to normal.
A steady procession to and from the pavilion by Fyrish # 1 Masjid batsmen saw them being limited to 45 off their allotted 8 overs, with Hoosein top scoring with 20 (2×6;2×4) off 6 balls.
The best bowler for Fyrish # 2 was former Guyana Player and Stanford Twenty 20 batsman Imran Khan who took 3for 2 off 2.5 overs.
Fyrish # 2 Masjid replied with 49-2 in 7.3 overs, with Javed Khan hammering 25 off 7 balls with 3 sixes and 1 four. Bowling for Fyrish # 1 Masjid Safraz Sankar took 1-13 off 1.3 overs and was supported by Wazir Haniff with 1-17 from 2 overs.
Javed Khan collected the man-of-the-match trophy for his contribution with the bat. The winners’ trophy was handed over to the Fyrish # 2 manager Wasim Khan by the Guyana Softball League organising Secretary Leonard Harprashad.
Fyrish # 2 have advanced to the overall finals to be staged in Georgetown at a date to be announced.
Meanwhile Grove Masjid defeated Providence Masjid in the final of the East Bank Zone to move into the overall finals. The Essequibo and East Coast zones are to be played shortly.
