Regal XI and Wolf’s Warriors will clash tomorrow at the Carifesta Sports Complex Ground in the final of the Guyana Softball League (GSL) 87-team Memorex Enterprises country-wide softball tournament.
In the semi-finals, Regal XI of Georgetown beat Rangers Sports Club of West Coast of Demerara by 48 runs and Wolf’s Warriors of West Coast Demerara got past Untouchables of Berbice by five wickets.
Wasim Haslim and Zulfikar Ali should open the batting for Regal XI while the in-form Kapildeo Singh is expected to play a key role at number three in the order. The experienced Raymond Harper, Captain Khalid Haslim, Lance Adams, consistent all rounders Mahendra Arjune and Mahase Chunilall are all expected to lend batting support. The bowling will be spearheaded by Balram Roopnarine with support from Arjune, Chunilall and Harper.
Wolf’s Warriors should be no pushovers and have in their batting line up the experienced Amrit “Rocky” Jairam who is one of the leading softball batsmen in the country. He should get support from Azad Azeeze, Balbinder Persaud, Timur Mohamed, Dhanpaul, Asif Ahamad, Cristiandial Persaud and Rambharose Beharry.
The bowling will be spearheaded by Doodnauth Doodnarine with support from Beharry, Persaud and Davindra Khusial.
An Essequibo select XI and a Demerara Select XI are scheduled to play an exhibition game before the final and this contest is being sponsored by Trophy Stall of Bourda Market and the City Mall.
Richard Latiff, Shaheed Gittens, Safraz Karim, Ameer Nizamuddeen, Diaram Persaud Reo Karim, Randy Ketwaroo, Rajin Mohamed, Mark Fung and Richard Gomes should lead the home team’s challenge against an Essequibo side which includes Ramesh Narine, Latchman Rohit and Jerome Trotman.
